Tenuta Carretta is among the most ancient winery of Italy. Located in the center of a triangular parcel of land formed by three ancient Roman roads in the old region of San Giuliano, the Carretta Estate was long disputed over by several noble families of the area. In 1461, the property passed to the Damiano noble family. On November 28, 1467 at the Castle of Piobesi, Andrea Damiano issued a public act. This was the first document that attests to the existence of the Carretta Estate. Because of this document, 1467 has been declared the founding year for Tenuta Carretta. In 1811, the property passed from Damiano to the Counts of Roero and thirty-three years ago, in 1985, to the Miroglio family of Alba, founder and owner of the industrial group of the same name. The cellar was entirely reconstructed in the mid-1990s. Built into the hill, it is divided into two large areas: one dedicated to winemaking and bottling, and the other to aging.Tenuta Carretta's productive philosophy is based on environmental sustainability. United with integrated viticultural practices (such as the use of chemicals only in extreme situations for the balanced development of the plant), it is the principle way in which the estate valorizes the territory where its grapes grow. The result? Wines with great personality that are immediately recognizable as faithful, unequivocal expressions of their territory of origin.Tenuta Carretta produces its wines exclusively from grapes harvested from its vineyard properties. In the cellar, the objective is to transfer the balance and harmony naturally found in the vineyards to the bottle. Wine is alive: it requires hygiene, technical expertise, and high attention to detail to ensure cleanliness in its aromas and good structure, and to ensure a pleasure to drink.Tenuta Carretta owns more than 70 Hectares of vineyard, 35 all around the winery, on the Roero hills, and 35 on the Langhe hills, in the Barbaresco and Barolo areas. The two most important grapes are Arneis and Nebbiolo, two varieties already well known for the production of very good wines. Roero soils are younger than Langhe soils, and the Tanaro River divides the territory in two parts not only by the geographical point of view but, also first, by the geological one. The particular composition of its vineyards' soil is ideal for cultivating Arneis (white berry) and Nebbiolo (black berry) grapes, producing two of the most prestigious Italian DOCG wines: Roero Arneis DOCG and Roero DOCG. That particular structure of the soil, sandy and clayed at the same time, gives to the wines intense aromas, elegance, good acidity, minerality, right structure, harmony.
