Lime (hydrated,agricultural And Industrial Lime)

Highland Building Company is wholly owned by Tanzanians. There has been a wide range of policy institutional changes at the macroeconomic and sectoral level in Tanzania. The Introduction of the investment Promotion Act and trade liberalization prompted our company to start a small scale lime producer in late 90’s. Then the main supplier was Ndola lime from Zambia. We had to wean the market from their then mindset that Tanzania could not produce the same. Later we supplied the hardware dealers building lime. We got various enquiries from different sectors. i.e mining, Agriculture, Sugar, and paper Industries. We then had to do an exploration which led to us supplying Kilombero sugar hydrated lime between June 2000 to 2002, China road construction for Songwe Tunduma road up to completion of project. Due to high purity of our limestone we also supplied Mufindi Papermills up to October 2008, we then shifted interest to mining and exporting dimension stones. We also supplied Agricultural lime to Utengule Coffee Estate. With these new developments in the lime value chain we intend to invest in Agricultural lime production line. A feasibility study confirmed that the 14 PMLs encompassing an area of approximately 126.8 hectares in Nanyala has a lifespan of more than 22 years. The area in Chunya has not been explored but it also has calcium lime. In Mbozi and Mbeya region we have dolomite PML with up to 22% mgO. We are therefore assured of long term supply.
