Screws

A screw is a type of fastener with a helical ridge (thread) that wraps around a cylindrical shaft. Unlike bolts, screws typically have a pointed end designed for insertion into a pre-drilled hole. Screws can be used on their own without the need for a nut, as the thread of the screw locks into the material to create a secure hold.

Types of Screws:

• Wood Screws: Designed specifically for wood, these screws have coarse threads to grip the wood tightly.
• Machine Screws: These screws are often used with nuts or tapped holes in metal, and they have finer threads compared to wood screws.
• Self-Tapping Screws: These screws have a sharp point that allows them to create their own threading in a material as they are driven in.
• Sheet Metal Screws: These screws are designed for use with sheet metal, featuring sharper threads to bite into the material and hold it in place.

Applications: Screws are used in nearly every field imaginable, including construction, automotive, electronics, and furniture making. Screws are particularly useful in situations where a strong, permanent hold is necessary, but disassembly is not needed.
