RFQ Description

Dear Sirs,We are a stretch tent manufacturer in South Africa, the birthplace of these unique and versatile cover solutions. The industry has been established for about 15 years and the fabric has evolved over that time. What makes stretch tents unique is the fabric’s multi-directional stretch. The stretch is what allows the tent to be shaped and by locking the poles into position, forms part of the structural integrity. The structure is simple yet effective but in order for it to perform as it should, the fabric needs to be up to the task. The properties that are essential are: Multidirectional stretch Waterproof (1000m) FR (to California std) High tensile/tear strength + 10.00kn Excellent memory/return Anti-bac / microbial Good wear and tear (scuff resistance) Easy cleaningWe have used various different fabrics all of which have their pro’s and con’s. 3ply Fabric 2 x 180gsm interlock polyester knit fabric with PU membrane of 50 micron laminated in the middleDrawback Waterhead & FR due to wicking Can only join panels by stitching and must then weld waterproof strip on top and bottom of each panelBenefits Great tensile strength Good memory/return with limited pillingPVC laminated fabric 180g polyester knit with PVC membrane laminated to top 0,5mm thickDrawbacks Tensile strength not as good as above Limited stretch Poor memory/return with pillingBenefits Lightweight Cheaper FR Good waterhead Easy to bond with HF & ultrasonic weldingDouble PU coat Polyester & 5% spandex lining at 45 denier with PU coat on either side (not sure of micron)Drawbacks Very low tensile & tear strength Very poor memory/return with pillingBenefits FR Waterhead Lightweight Easy to clean UV stable Scuff resistantOur objective is to try and develop a fabric that ticks all the boxes by either improving the performance of existing products or develop a completely new cloth. My personal favourite is the PU coated cloth as it can have a multitude of different finishes, but we are struggling to improve the tear and tensile strength as well as the memory. If you can offer any assistance or point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.I look forward to your replyMichele Upton
