When President Lee Teng-hui visited the eastern Taiwan in 1979, he felt the necessity of a balanced economic development between the east and the west. And then he proposed a policy of "industrial eastward migration". The Stone Industry Development Center of the Foundation established a preparatory meeting in August 1992. Ministry of Economic Affairs Bureau, Taiwan Marble Association and the stone industry donation fund US1.4 million dollars to set up as the only impersonal R & D entity in eastern Taiwan.In recent years, the domestic construction industry is facing a downturn as well as the impact of Taiwan's accession to the WTO on the opening of imports of stone products from China. The stone industry has been transformed into an international and high value industry. Stone & Resource Industry R&D Center has also adjusted its phased tasks in response to the industrial restructuring and has continuously expanded its services field. In recent years, Stone & Resource Industry R&D Center has also taken the third core of the cultural and creative industries into consideration.
