SeaChange Seafoods is a division of Walcan Seafood Ltd, a seafood processor located on Quadra Island, British Columbia, Canada.Since 1974, Walcan Seafood Ltd has been involved in the processing and production of various different seafood types and products, ranging from Pacific herring, salmon, salmon roe, halibut, black cod, spot prawns, oysters, sea cucumbers and more. We offer custom-processing services, while also producing our own line of seafood products.One of the products that Walcan Seafood Ltd produces is smoked salmon retort pouches. These 100% shelf-stable pouches are made using a process during which a portion of cold-smoked, wild salmon is placed inside a gold-foil retort pouch - a flexible container made from a laminate of different materials - which is then hermetically sealed and cooked at a high heat. This last stage creates a commercially sterile environment within the pouch, eliminating the possibility of any bacterial growth and making the contents safe to eat for 5 years after being produced. Retort pouch processing is very similar to canning and Walcan Seafood was the first BC processor to receive approval to make smoked salmon retort pouches.In January of 2017, Walcan acquired SeaChange Seafoods, a company that had been a loyal smoked salmon pouch customer of Walcan's for the previous 3 decades. Now under new ownership, with a fresh vision of the future, the SeaChange brand carries on and Walcan's commitment to creating delicious, healthy and convenient seafood products remains unchanged.
