What is Powder Coating?
Powder coating is a dry finishing process used since the 1950s. It works in three steps:
1. Raw materials — The coating starts as a dry powder of finely ground resins, pigments, and additives. Unlike liquid paint, it contains no solvents. Most components are in solid, melt-processable form. Additives further boost performance by preventing discoloration during synthesis and cure, easing spray application, improving light stability, and enhancing corrosion resistance.
2. Application — The powder adheres to a preheated substrate in a fluidized bed, or electrostatically during spray application.
3. Curing — The coated part enters a curing oven, where particles flow and fuse into a strong, adherent film. The result is a high-quality finish with excellent durability.

FAQs
Q1. What are the benefits of powder coating alloys?
Powder coating protects alloys against corrosion and wear, enhancing both durability and appearance with a uniform, long-lasting finish.
Q2. What are powder coatings and how do they work?
Powder coatings are a dry finishing process: finely ground particles of pigment and resin are electrostatically applied to a surface, then baked in an oven. Heat makes the powder melt and flow into a tough, durable, smooth protective layer.
Q3. What are the pros and cons of powder coating?
Pros: durable, environmentally friendly, and available in a wide range of colors and finishes. Cons: higher initial cost and requires specialized application equipment.
Q4. What are the objectives of powder coating?
The main objectives are to protect surfaces from corrosion, enhance durability, and improve appearance with a smooth, uniform finish.
