POLYESTER RESIN – BINDER IDEAL PARAMETERS FOR POLYESTER RESIN Chemical nature of product : Unsaturated orthophthalic polyester in solution of styrene monomer Colour : Light straw yellow Density at 25°C : 1.11 - 1.13 gm/cc Brookfield viscosity at 25°C : 400 - 800 cps (400 - 600 cps at 23°C) Content of styrene monomer : 34 - 36 % max. in weight Exothermic curve in thermostatic bath at 80°C with 0.2 % of accelerator (6 % Co++) and 2 % catalyst TBPB HA M1 Gel time : 7 - 9 minutes Time to reach max. temperature : 11 - 15 minutes Max. temperature at peak : 220°C Property of hardened resin Volumetric shrinkage : 7.5 % max. Barcol hardness : min. 42 ( after 24 hours ) Visible fissuring : 0-1 max. The polyester resin must be resistant ( or stabilized ) to UV rays.
