We are a medium-sized company truly operating in the heart and soul of South Louisiana. We experienced Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Rita, Hurricane Ike, and Hurricane lived to tell about them. Our company has operated on eBay, very successfully, with the name, Lollypops_Gems, names borrowed from my childrens nicknames, for many years. Locally, we have operated as a small storefront, with small being by choice, because we had other occupations such a university professor, a real estate investor, an environmental lab Director and spending time with our families, that kept us very busy during that time!While we enter a different phase of our lives, we also have decided to see if Lollypops Gems will make the transition with us. We have always offered guaranteed, personalized 100% authenic Cajun jewelry. Most of our request in the past have centered around Mardi Gras, of course, fleur de leis symbols, and beautiful Mardi Gras masks, made into necklaces, earrings, bracelets, pins or broaches, and hair jewelry such as barrettes and embellished combs. We have begun receiving requests for jewelry made from Hurricane debris being disposed of as useless. These many requests for simple jewelry, to help us always remember and never forget how lives can be changed in an instant, or something to remind us how life was before the hurricanes as we look around to see how life is now.As we investigated the possibility of acquiring the debris, sanitizing all of the debris that would be used in our jewelry, we allowed ourselves to become more and more excited! Everything seemed to be falling into place! We would be helping the environment by making something beautiful out of something that would otherwise fill yet another landfill! And, even though much has been done to help the residents of the Gulf coast, much more help is still needed.
