Clove bud oil has biological activities, such as antinociceptive (analgesic) applied to relieve toothache and joint pain, antibacterial, antifungal, insecticidal and antioxidant properties, and are used traditionally as flavouring agent and antimicrobial material in food, as an anti-carcinogenic agent due to its antioxidant properties and potentially as a chemo-preventative agent.
Clove bud essential oil is yellow to clear brown, with a characteristic spicy odour. The main active component(s) in a typical oil sample are eugenol (75 – 85%), eugenyl acetate (7- 15%), β-caryophyllene (2 – 9%), and others.
